1. Alipay Vs. Alipay Cross-border

Sunflowerbiz offers 2 Alipay extensions: Alipay and Alipay Cross-border. Alipay integrates the native Alipay API oriented to companies registered in mainland China, while Alipay Cross-border integrates the Alipay cross-border API designed for companies registered outside mainland China. Please check the differences in the table below:

2. How to Apply for the Alipay Cross-border API?

1) First, you should register an Alipay Global Account on Alipay's Global Platform.

1a) Go to Alipay's Global Platform, click Apply Now.

1b) Select the Online Payment product and Merchant role.

1c) Fill out the contact information and leave the message to Alipay.

2) Basic requirements to access the  Alipay Cross-border API.

  • The company has a legally registered overseas company with an authentic and valid business license.
  • Your company information, such as industry, company name, address, contact person and contact information
  • Have an independent e-commerce website, either PC or mobile. The website should contain a payment link.
  • The products and services must comply with relevant legal provisions and Alipay requirements.

3) What's the application process for a website to access to Alipay？

After passing the review of Alipay, you will receive a sign-up guideline, and please follow the steps as below: 
  • Register an overseas corporate account of Alipay at https://global.alipay.com/index.htm and complete the email verification. 
  • Complete certification of merchant qualifications (within 5 to 7 working days);
  • Please click the link in the sign-up guideline and fill out the information related to qualification certification. 
  • Note: Please ensure that the website that your company applies for access to Alipay cross-border payment can be visited, or Alipay may reject your application. If your site is under construction, please apply after it is complete. 
  • Apply for sign-up of cross-border payment product (3 to 5 working days). 
  • Please click the link in the sign-up guideline and then sign up for the relevant product. 

4) What are the requirements for the website to connect with Global Alipay?

  • The website should be an independent e-commerce website that has launched, either PC or mobile.
  • The website can be accessed.
  • The website has built products or service pages and a payment link.
  • The products and services are not in the Alipay List of prohibited and restricted goods.

3. Settlement

1) What withdrawal currencies does Alipay support?

Global Alipay supports settlement in 14 major foreign currencies: US Dollar, Singapore Dollar, Japanese Yen, Canadian Dollar, Australian Dollar, Euro, New Zealand Dollar, British Pound, Thai Baht, Hong Kong Dollar, Swiss Franc, Swedish Krona, Danish Krone, and Norwegian Krone.

2) Does Global Alipay support RMB settlement?

Currently, Global Alipay does not support RMB settlement.

3) How is the Alipay exchange rate determined?

The Alipay exchange rate depends on the selling price of Alipay's bank partners on the day. The exchange rate is maintained daily.

4) How long does it take to receive the payment after withdrawal from Alipay?

After initiating the settlement by Alipay, it usually takes one to five working days for receipt.

What is the charging standard for website access to Alipay？
 
The applicable service fee rate for the first calendar month is 2.2% of the amount per transaction. Then, based on the transaction amount of the previous calendar month, Alipay will charge the merchant a service fee calculated according to the rates listed in the table below:

Can an overseas company with the website server in mainland China apply for Alipay cross-border?
 
Currently, Global Alipay has no restrictions on the location of the server of the merchant website, but the merchant website should meet the relevant requirements of the government/institution of the place where the server locates, and obtain relevant filing qualifications.
